Ajimobi Mulls Installation Of CCTV Cameras In Crisis Prone Areas

In order to sustain the existing peace and security in the state, the Oyo State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has said his government is considering installing close circuit television (CCTV) cameras in strategic locations across the state.

The move, the governor said would take the state to joining the league of states and communities under the ‘safe city project’.

The governor gave the hint yesterday while playing host to the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Stuart Symington, who paid him a courtesy call at the state secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

Addressing the guest who came in company of his top officials, Ajimobi recounted that Oyo State, which was known for violence and brigandage changed its course when his administration came on board in 2011,and would do everything possible to ensure lasting peace.

According to him, the CCTV cameras would be installed at strategic locations deemed red-spot or crisis prone, from where a close monitoring of the entire state would be done, to alert security operatives who would have a direct link to the control base of the CCTV cameras.

He stressed that the effort of the administration in investing in the security and safety of the state was not unconnected to its understanding of the importance of safety and security to development.

On the areas of flooding, the governor said the intervention and assistance gotten from the World Bank after the 2011 flood that ravaged the state, had helped the state in installing early flood warning signals among others and put in place measures that has helped prevent a recurrence.

The governor who further reeled out the various achievements of his administrations so far in the areas of health, education, provision of water, infrastructure and urban renewal said his administration has been known for its big dreams and urged the visitors to support the dreams.

"We came in 2011 and the state was regarded as an unsafe place. This made us come up with our hierarchy of development, drawing from man’s hierarchy of needs.

"We identified that the job of a government is firstly security and safety and the approach we embarked on has yielded result and has transform the state to be known as one of the safest in the country."

"The state has joined the comity of states in the Safe City Project, where technology is deployed to combat crime and ensure safety and security.
